Gujarat BJP government has announced sabarmati report A Hindi film based on the 2002 Godhra train fire has been made tax-free in the state, officials said on Thursday. It said Patel watched the film with producer Ekta Kapoor, veteran Bollywood star Jeetendra, the film’s actress Riddhi Dogra and Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi.

“The Chief Minister has appreciated the film and made it tax-free in Gujarat,” the release said.

Gujarat is the fifth BJP-ruled state to grant tax-free status to the Vikrant Massey starrer film, which released in theaters last week.

Earlier this week, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh declared the film tax-free, effectively reducing its ticket prices. On 27 February 2002, a compartment of the Sabarmati Express train was set on fire near Godhra station in Gujarat, killing 59 people, mostly kar sevaks, sparking large-scale riots in the state. ‘The Sabarmati Report’ review: Critics love Vikrant Massey’s performance but find the story ‘confusing’.

Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were among the leaders who praised the film.
