AR Rahman’s legal team has given a deadline of 24 hours to “detractors” to remove the defamatory content targeting him and his family from YouTube, Xx, Instagram, Facebook and other online portals. A part of the legal notice directed to the creators read, “My client informs those spreading hate and sharing offensive content to remove the objectionable content within the next one hour and maximum 24 hours time period, they will be given appropriate notice.” “It would be advisable to file a criminal case.” Defamation case under section 356 of the Indian Code of Justice, 2023 and in such a situation, the offenders may be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, with or without fine, as the court may determine under the section. The letter reads, “My client is directed to inform me that there is not even an iota of truth in any programme, interview, in which obscene material has been alleged, with the intention of damaging the reputation of my client. And there is also an intention to hurt his family.”
